There is no Android version and no web version. VocaX is a native iPhone, iPad and Mac app: your study history lives in your own iCloud — storage under your Apple account — you can look a word up straight from system search, jump into search with one tap from Control Center, point the camera at a word to look it up, have words read aloud by the system voice and check your own speaking with on-device recognition, and review reminders appear on the Lock Screen while respecting whatever Focus mode you have set. The trade-off is equally plain: it runs on Apple devices only, and there is no public API.

This page is about what "native" actually changes in daily use: which things take fewer taps, and which things simply are not available.

1. First, the version question

VocaX is Apple-platform only: one version shared by iPhone, iPad and Mac, and signing in with the same Apple account on both shows the same study history. There is no Android version, no web version and no Windows version. Mac is part of the Apple platform and is supported.

Committing to one platform lets the app live inside the system. It also means it cannot go anywhere outside that system.

2. Where your data lives: your own iCloud

Your study history, favourites, flags and practice records are stored in your own iCloud — the storage under your Apple account. Move to a new iPhone, sign in with the same Apple account, and the history comes with you; when you are not signed in, it stays on the device.

This is what sets the boundaries below: there is no web dashboard for you to log into, and no username-and-password account of ours — your account is your Apple account. See where your data lives and how long it is kept.

3. Look a word up without opening the app: system search and Control Center

Because the app lives in the system, looking up a word does not start with finding its icon:

• System search: type a word in the system search field and it appears with a short definition; tap the result to land on that word's detail page. Up to 10 results at a time — enough to confirm you found the right word.
• Control Center: add the "Look Up" control and tap it to open VocaX on the search screen. It only takes you to the search box; it does not look anything up for you or pre-fill a word.

Arriving from either place does one thing: opens the right page. Nothing here alters your study history, and opening a word from system search does not count towards that day's word-list study.

4. Camera lookup: point at the word, tap it

You meet a stretch of English you cannot read — on paper, on a screen, right in front of you — point the camera at it, tap the word, and the definition appears. For printed material especially, this removes the step of typing the word into a search box. See how camera word capture works.

5. Pronunciation and audio: system voice, on-device recognition

VocaX does not build its own speech stack; it uses the one the system provides:

• Read aloud: in dictation practice the system voice reads the word and you type it out.
• Recognition: speaking practice uses on-device speech recognition, so transcription happens on the device and shows you what it heard. It checks whether you said the word, and gives no pronunciation score.
• Audio content: scenario explanations, word music and similar audio are provided inside the app and play there.

6. Reminders, Lock Screen and Focus

VocaX sends no push notifications anywhere in the app. The only automatic reminder is the in-app one: it surfaces on the Lock Screen at its time and respects whatever Focus mode you have set, so a meeting or a night's sleep is not interrupted by it. It does not deliver long nagging messages or lean on streak counts — the full conditions are on why we don't nag you with streaks.

7. Boundaries: what this cannot do for you

• No Android, web or desktop version. If your study moves between an Android phone and a Windows laptop, VocaX will not follow you.
• No public API. There is no programming interface to call and no export to third-party formats; VocaX is not a building block you can wire into your own workflow.
• Some parts still need a connection. Downloaded resource packs work without one afterwards; AI translation, AI lookup definitions and the weekly insight report need to be online.
• No widgets. Study progress does not appear in Home Screen or Lock Screen widgets.
• Available features follow the current version of the app. Everything above describes the current release; a new version may add or remove things. What you see on your device is what counts.

Native means faster and closer to hand. It also means iOS only. Those two sentences have to be read together.

Is there an Android or web version of VocaX?

Where is my study data stored?

In your own iCloud — the storage under your Apple account. Sign in with the same Apple account on a new device and your history comes with you; when you are not signed in it stays on the device.

Can I look a word up without opening the app?

Partly. Type a word in system search and it appears with a short definition, ready to tap through to the detail page. The Control Center "Look Up" control opens VocaX on the search screen, but the typing is still yours.

Does it work in airplane mode?

Downloaded resource packs do — the base word lists, practice material and additional content are inside them. Anything you have not downloaded needs a connection the first time. AI translation, AI lookup definitions and the weekly insight report need to be online.

Can I export my data to a third-party format?

No. VocaX provides no public API and no export to third-party formats. Your study history follows your Apple account in iCloud; there is no cross-platform migration path.
