Where Do My Learning Records Live? In Your Own iCloud
Your learning records — the words you have started, your review progress, flagged words, favourites and practice history — are kept in iCloud under your own Apple Account. Sign in with the same Apple Account on another device and your progress picks up where it left off. You can also study without signing in at all, in which case the records stay on that one device. The AI features that need a connection send the text you ask them to work on to a model service.
1. Do I have to sign in before I can use it?
No. You can look words up, study and practise without signing in, and nothing is held back. What signing in changes is not whether you can use VocaX but where your records go: once you sign in, they follow your Apple Account and continue on another device; if you never sign in, they belong to that one installation on that one device.
Signing in is an option, not a gate. If you only ever use one phone, you never need to sign in. If you want your iPhone and your iPad to share one set of progress, sign in.
Signing in decides whether your records follow you. It does not decide whether you can use VocaX.
2. Do the AI features send my content somewhere else?
They do, and it should be said plainly. Translation, word definitions and the weekly report need a model service to do the work, so the text you ask them to work on is sent there. What goes out is the text of that one request, not your entire learning history.
Which is also the practical consequence: if your text contains client names, patient details or anything else you hold under a duty of confidence, do not put it through these features. That is not a limitation specific to VocaX — it is how any translation or definition feature that relies on a cloud model works.
AI features send the text of the request you asked them to process; our logs do not write plain-text IP addresses.
3. If I change phones or reinstall, are my records still there?
Yes, as long as you were signed in with the same Apple Account on the old device. Sign in on the new device and the records come back. Apple handles the sync; it needs a connection and it is not instantaneous — give it a few moments on a new device before you do anything else, and do not import the same material twice.
- Changing devices — sign in to VocaX with the same Apple Account and wait for the sync to finish.
- Reinstalling — records return the same way once you sign in again; do not re-do the same batch of work while the sync is still running.
- Never signed in — the records belong to that one installation, and they go away with the app.
4. Does signing out delete my data?
No. Signing out changes identity, nothing else: the app moves from "the records attached to your Apple Account" back to "a local state on this device only". What you built while signed in stays in your own iCloud and returns the next time you sign in.
Signing out does not wipe anyone's data and does not trigger any bulk deletion. If you do want everything cleared, the app's settings let you delete your account, which permanently removes the account and its learning records; the full terms are in the privacy policy.
Signing out is a change of identity, not a deletion: it clears nothing you already have and deletes nothing in bulk.
5. What VocaX cannot do for you here
- We cannot promise iCloud's behaviour on Apple's behalf. When a sync finishes and how it behaves during a network or Apple service problem is decided by Apple, not by us.
- Sync depends on your connection and on Apple's services. While you are offline, records stay on the device and sync afterwards, so for a while the two are not identical.
- We do not make retention promises for the model service. We can describe exactly what happens on our side; what happens on the model service is not ours to promise.

FAQ
Can I use VocaX without signing in?
Yes. Looking words up, studying and all three practice formats work normally. Signing in only decides whether your records sync across your devices through iCloud; it does not decide which features you get.
Where are my learning records stored?
In iCloud under your own Apple Account — they belong to your account. Sign in with the same Apple Account on a new device and your progress continues; without signing in, the records stay on that one device.
Is what I type into AI translation stored?
The text you ask it to work on goes to a model service — that is what makes a cloud AI feature possible. On our side no copy of the text is kept: our logs do not write plain-text IP addresses. Please do not run text you hold under a duty of confidence through these features.
Does signing out delete my learning records?
