How Much Does VocaX Cost? ¥298 a Year, a Seven-Day Trial, Monthly or Annual Only — No Lifetime Option

VocaX comes in two payment options and nothing else: monthly and annual, with annual at ¥298. There is no lifetime option and no pay-once-own-forever tier. New subscribers get a seven-day free trial, and cancelling during the trial costs nothing. The free tier keeps working indefinitely — you do not have to pay to start. Paying unlocks AI translation quota, a weekly Memory Insights report, and subscriber themes.

This page answers three things: what you pay, how to choose between monthly and annual, and what still does not change after you pay.

1. The price table: monthly and annual, and nothing else

There are two plans. Both carry exactly the same entitlements; only the billing period differs.

Monthly and annual buy the same subscription. There is no version where paying yearly unlocks more; the only difference is how often you are billed and what you spend in total.

2. How far the free tier goes

The free tier is not a time-limited trial and not a cut-down demo: the main dictionary, the word lists, all three active practice formats, review scheduling, flags and favourites, and the free theme are all open. You can keep using them, and there is no expiry date. Nothing you have already learned gets taken back because you have not paid.

The difference between free and paid comes down to AI-related quotas, the weekly report, and themes. Every free-tier quota is listed in full in What Is Free in VocaX.

3. What you gain by paying

In total: AI translation raised to 1,000 a day, a Memory Insights report every week, scenario audio, word music and review sessions without their weekly caps, and subscriber themes. Word lookup is not among them — it stays at 50 a day on both tiers, and we are not going to present it as a reason to subscribe.

A subscription changes quotas and how often you get a report, not the content of the word lists. Entries, definitions, example sentences and illustrations are all preset; paying does not hand you another batch of words.

4. Monthly or annual — how to choose

It comes down to one question: how long do you expect to use it?

• You are in it for a full exam cycle — your next exam is months away, or you already open VocaX every day — choose annual. You stop thinking about renewal and stop re-deciding whether to continue.
• You want a short push of a few weeks — working intensively through one word list — choose monthly and stop when you are done.
• You have not decided yet — stay on the free tier and save the seven-day trial for a stretch when you actually have several days in a row to use it. The free tier is complete on its own; you do not need a subscription to try VocaX.

One thing worth knowing up front: there is no hidden tier that unlocks after a certain length of payment, and there is no limited-time offer on this page. The price is the number above.

5. How to use the seven-day trial, and how to cancel

The trial gives you the full subscription experience for seven days; it is not seven days to tap every button once. What is worth testing is whether the daily workload fits the time you actually have, whether you know how to come back after missing a day, and whether translation and the weekly report are things you will really use. Cancelling during the trial costs nothing. Cancellation happens in Apple's subscription settings, following the path shown on the subscription page on your device. It is worth checking the renewal date before the trial ends rather than after the charge goes through.

6. Cancelling, refunds, and your data

• Subscriptions are managed by Apple. Cancelling, refunds and changing the payment method are all handled in Apple's subscription settings; there is no separate place on our side where you cancel.
• Entitlements stay available until the end of the current billing period, after which you return to the free tier. The exact date is shown on Apple's subscription page.
• Cancelling does not delete your learning data. Word list progress, flags and favourites all stay; going back to free only means the quotas return to free-tier levels.
• There is no lifetime option. If what you want is to pay once and own it forever, VocaX is not that kind of product.

One thing that has nothing to do with price but matters more: while you are not signed in, your learning data lives only on this device, and switching phones or reinstalling leaves no second copy. Privacy and Your Data covers that in full.

7. The boundaries: what a subscription cannot do for you

• It does not promise a higher score, and it does not promise you will remember a certain number of words. A subscription buys quota, reports and themes — not learning outcomes. How much you retain depends on how much you practise and how well you practise it.
• It does not change your review schedule. When a word comes back is decided by your own practice results, not by whether you have paid.
• It does not add new words or new definitions. Entries are preset by us; you cannot create your own cards or rewrite the content of any card. If you need that control, see how VocaX compares with tools like Anki.
• It does not manage your time for you. VocaX sends no push notifications and runs no streak rewards.

It is closer to the truth to think of paying as "opening the daily quota gate a little wider" than as "buying a better memory outcome".
